Date: 05/01/2002

Author: Joshua Alexander, MD

Down Syndrome is one of the most common genetic conditions in the world, affecting 1 in every 800-1,000 live births.
Usually caused by having an extra chromosome #21, children with this condition can face many challenges like low muscle tone, mental retardation, heart problems, and childhood leukemia. This month, we highlight several websites that provide information and support designed to help these children live long, happy and productive lives.

National Association for Down Syndrome
National Down Syndrome Congress
