Sertraline (Zoloft?)

COMMON USES:
Used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) in children and adolescents age 6-17 years.
Sometimes used to treat depression in teenagers.

HOW IT'S SUPPLIED:
25-, 50-, and 100-milligram tablets
20 milligram per milliliter oral concentrate.

HOW IT WORKS:
A SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) medication, Zoloft? works to correct a chemical imbalance in the brain which may be related to symptoms and behaviors of OCD.

THINGS TO DISCUSS WITH YOUR DOCTOR:
? Can cause dry mouth, trouble falling asleep, nausea, diarrhea and sleepiness
? Can also cause constipation, vomiting, dizziness, headache, pain, burning, or tingling in the hands or feet, excitement, nervousness, shaking hands that you cannot control, sore throat and increased sweating
? May cause an increased risk of suicidal thoughts and behavior. Anyone starting this medicine or taking an increased dose should be watched closely for suicidal thoughts, worsening of depression, or unusual changes in behavior.
? Not to be given to children who are also taking medicines called monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or pimozide.
? Concentrate should be mixed with 4 ounces (1/2 cup) of water, ginger ale, lemon or lime soda, lemonade, or orange juice and drank immediately.
? Dropper from liquid concentrate contains rubber and can cause reactions in people who are allergic to latex.
