Oseltamivir (Tamiflu?)

COMMON USES:
Used to prevent influenza (flu) in children 1 year and older.
Used to treat influenza in patients 1 year and older who have had symptoms for no more than 2 days.

HOW IT'S SUPPLIED:
30, 45, or 75 milligram capsule
12 milligram per milliliter liquid suspension

HOW IT WORKS:
Belonging to a group of medicines called neuraminidase inhibitors, this medication attacks the influenza virus and stops it from spreading inside the body.

THINGS TO DISCUSS WITH YOUR DOCTOR:
* Must be taken within 2 days after flu symptoms start in order to work.
* Can be taken with or without food.
* Capsules can be opened and mixed with sweetened liquid (eg, chocolate syrup).
* May cause mild-to-moderate nausea or vomiting and/or diarrhea (taking TAMIFLU with food may reduce the potential for these side effects).
* Other less common side effects may include bronchitis, sleeplessness and dizziness.
* May cause confusion and self-injury shortly after taking.
* Use with caution in children who have kidney disease.
* Usually taken twice a day for 5 days in a row.
* Liquid suspension is "tutti-frutti" flavored
