Primidone (Mysoline?)

COMMON USES:
Used to control seizures.

HOW IT?S SUPPLIED
50- and 250-milligram tablets
125- milligram chewable tablet
Liquid suspension (250 milligrams per 5 milliliters

HOW IT WORKS:
While scientists do not know exactly how Primidone works, it calms nerve cells in the brain to help control seizures.

THINGS TO DISCUSS WITH YOUR DOCTOR:
* Once in the body, this medicine breaks down into phenobarbitol and other anti-seizure chemicals.
* Don?t use if your child is allergic to phenobarbitol.
* May cause dizziness, tiredness, decreasd balance, vision problems, upset stomach or rash.
* Use carefully if your child has lung, kidney, liver, or blood cell diseases.
* Don?t stop the medicine suddenly as this may cause seizures.
* Do not come off this medicine over less than a 2 week period.
* Blood tests to check for anemia, liver and kidney function should be checked regularly.
