HOW IT'S SUPPLIED: * Tablets * Children?s Syrup (available in 2.5-ounce bottles) * Granules
HOW IT WORKS: * Senna is a laxative that's absorbed from the gut and stimulates nerves in the intestines to set off a series of wave-like contractions (called peristalsis) that results in a bowel movement.
THINGS TO DISCUSS WITH YOUR DOCTOR: * Not usually used in children less than 2 years old. * Don?t use if the child has stomach pain. * Usually takes 6 to 12 hours to see results, so often given at bedtime to help have bowel movement in the morning. * Granules may be eaten plain or mixed into food or drinks. * Syrup is cocoa-flavored. * There are no known drug interactions. * Most common side effects include nausea, stomach bloating, cramps, gas, and/or diarrhea.
