COMMON USES: Used to prevent seizures seen with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (a severe form of epilepsy). Added on to other seizure medicines when the first medicine is not enough to control the seizures.
HOW IT?S SUPPLIED: 2-milligram, 5-milligram, and 25-milligram chewable tablets Also comes in 25-milligram, 100-milligram, 150-milligram, and 200-milligram tablets that must be swallowed.
HOW IT WORKS: Scientists do not know exactly how this medicine prevents seizures.
THINGS TO DISCUSS WITH YOUR DOCTOR: * Often used along with other seizure medicines. * Tablets can be swallowed whole, chewed, or mixed into water or fruit juice. * Lamotrigine may cause headache, tiredness, blurred vision, double vision, nausea, vomiting, stuffy or runny nose, dizziness, or unsteadiness. * Lamotrigine may cause a serious rash, fever or swollen lymph nodes. If any of these occur, your doctor should be contacted immediately. *Don?t run out of this medicine or stop it suddenly because this may cause seizures.
