Chairman Michael Powell, the head of the Federal Communications Commission, visited the Wilmington Children's Developmental Services Agency today to observe a TelAbility videoclinc session. Afterwards, the Chairman spoke with TelAbility's Keith Cochran and Dr. Alexander, the Getz family, and Pam Stone, a physical therapist from the Wilmington UCP Center. During their discussion, Mrs. Getz noted how telemedicine provided her family with a non-threatening environment that increases the quality time her son and his therapist can spend with their doctor in Chapel Hill. "We don't have to waste the time driving up there or the time in the waiting room, and that can be tough with a special-needs child." Mr. Powell called the Getz's "a compelling case for the value of technology" and said he hoped to see the growth of similar programs nationwide.
