Biography:

WATCH Participant. Amy received her Bachelor of Arts from Meredith College, with a double major in Communications and Spanish, a concentration in Communication Disorders and a minor in Cross-Cultural Studies. She went on to obtain a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from East Carolina University in 2004. Amy has experience in evaluating and treating articulation and phonology issues, receptive and expressive language delays, and oral-motor and feeding disorders in children and adults. She has worked in a variety of settings, including inpatient rehabilitation for traumatic brain injury, skilled nursing facilities, pediatric private practices, and inpatient psychiatrics. Upon graduating from ECU, Amy practiced speech-language pathology in Louisville, Kentucky before returning to her hometown of Raleigh, NC. Amy currently evaluates and treats speech and language disorders in Spanish for children aged birth to three.

WATCH Participant. Kasey graduated in 2002 from East Carolina University. Her work experience has been exclusive to pediatrics in both private and school based settings; however, she also has clinical experience in psychologically based centers, nursing homes, and rehabilitation hospitals. Her therapy techniques utilize a sensory integrative approach during treatment sessions for sensory, developmental, and fine motor treatment strategies. Her continuing education includes multiple courses on sensory integration techniques and strategies as well as handwriting evaluation and remediation. Kasey is experienced in working with children with developmental delays, sensory integration dysfunction, fine motor delays, autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and a wide range of other syndromes and disabilities.

Thea received her Master's degree from UNC-CH in Early Childhood Intervention and Family Support, and specialized in social inclusion. She worked for three years as a hospital based early interventionist at UNC Hospitals, and has an eight year old son, who has cerebral palsy. Thea is especially interested in developmental outcomes of children who have received early intervention, benefits and barriers attributed to social inclusion of young children with special needs, community recreational opportunities for young children with special needs, and the role of maternal outlook in the development of mastery motivation in young children with special needs.
