The Sensory Experiences Project
SUBJECTS NEEDED: The Sensory Experiences Project is a research study
designed to examine how young children perceive various sensory events
in their environment. With the information we obtain we hope to
accomplish three goals: 1) study the influences of early sensory
experiences on development, 2) gain insight into the nature of
developmental delays, and 3) develop tools that can help with clinical
assessment and treatment for children with developmental delays.

DOES MY CHILD QUALIFY?
We are looking for:
* children with developmental delays (non-specific delays as well as
those with identified syndromes such as Down Syndrome, Prader-Willie
Syndrome, and Williams Syndrome) who are between the ages of 18 months
and 8 years
* typically developing children between the ages of 9 months and 24
months
* all children must have normal vision and hearing or vision/hearing
impairments that are corrected to within normal limits

Your child will receive sensory and developmental assessments that
involve the presentation of different kinds of toys and other
activities. These take approximately 1 ? - 2 ? hours depending upon your
child's age and skills and can be done in one or two sessions, as
convenient for families. In addition, parents complete 1 - 1 ? hours of
paperwork and participate in some additional interviews while their
child is being assessed at our research office in Carr Mill Mall.

Participants will receive $50.00 for completing the study, mileage
reimbursement, and a parent report summarizing the results of the
developmental and sensory assessments.
