Griseofulvin (Grifulvin?, Gris-PEG?)
Date: 05/16/2011

COMMON USES:
Treating ringworm infections of the skin, hair, or nail.

HOW IT'S SUPPLIED:
125-, 250-, and 500 milligram tablets.
125 milligram per 5 milliliters suspension.

HOW IT WORKS:
* Stops certain fungus cells from dividing and growing. This means treatment needs to be continued for several weeks or months to get rid of the infection.

THINGS TO DISCUSS WITH YOUR DOCTOR:

* In long term use, doctors should follow liver, kidney and blood tests.

* Usually taken for 2 to 4 weeks for skin infections, 4 to 6 weeks for hair and scalp infections, and 3 to 6 months for nail infections.

* Because it can make skin sensitive to sunlight, your child should avoid unnecessary or prolonged exposure to sunlight and wear protective clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen while taking this medicine.

* May also cause headaches, upset stomach, diarrhea or loose stools, dizziness, and/or confusion.

* Shake the liquid well before each use to mix the medication evenly.

* Tablets should be taken after a meal or with milk because fat increases absorption of the medicine into the body.
