Magnesium Hydroxide (Milk of Magnesia?, Phillips Milk of Magnesia?)
Date: 07/01/2012

COMMON USES:
Laxative - decreases constipation
Antacid - used for upset stomachs

HOW IT'S SUPPLIED:
Liquid - 400 milligrams per 5 milliliters.
Chewable Tablets - 311 milligrams.

HOW IT WORKS:
Keeps more liquids inside the intestines which softens the stools and decreases constipation.
Neutralizes some of the acid in the stomach.

THINGS TO DISCUSS WITH YOUR DOCTOR:
* Use in infants (less than 1 year old) or children with kidney disease can lead to a harmful build-up of magnesium in the blood.
* Decreases the body's ability to absorb tetracycline, digoxin, indomethacin, and iron salts.
* Also available in mint and cherry flavors.
* Cherry-flavored liquid also contains D&C Red #28 dye.

Try to soften stools by increasing the amount of fiber and juices (apple,pear,purple grape and prune)in the diet before using any laxatives on a regular basis.
