Oxcarbazepine (Trileptal?)

COMMON USES:
Used to help prevent and treat partial, and generalized tonic clonic seizures.
May also help relieve nerve pain.

HOW IT?S SUPPLIED:
150-, 300-, and 600-milligram tablets
Liquid suspension (300mg/5mL)

THINGS TO DISCUSS WITH YOUR DOCTOR:
* May cause dizziness, tiredness, vomiting, or blurred vision.
* May cause low sodium in the blood (hyponatremia), skin rash, or stomach upset.
* Use carefully if your child has liver or kidney disease or if your child is allergic to carbamazepine (Tegretol?).
* Liquid suspension should be shaken well before each use.
* Taking with food may prevent stomach upset.
* Do not stop taking the medicine suddenly as this may cause seizures.
* May cause low sodium levels in the blood.
* Blood levels of the medicine, liver function tests, and sodium should be followed regularly.
