Clonazepam (Klonopin?)

COMMON USES:
Often used to help control absence (staring spell), myoclonic, and Lennox-Gastaut, types of seizures
Also used to reduce anxiety.

HOW IT?S SUPPLIED:
0.5 milligram, 1 milligram, and 2 milligram tablets.
100 micrograms per milliliter suspension.
0.125- and 0.25, 0.5, 1 and 2 milligram oral-disintegrating tablets/wafers.

HOW IT WORKS:
Thought to improve the action of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA), a chemical in the brain that helps to control abnormal brain waves that can cause seizures.

THINGS TO DISCUSS WITH YOUR DOCTOR:
* Can cause drowsiness, slurred speech, increased secretions, double vision, behavior changes, dizziness, and/or depression.
* Should not be used by children who have liver disease or glaucoma (increased pressure in the eyes)
* Suddenly stopping the medicine may cause seizures to happen
* Doctors should follow liver enzymes and white cell counts of children who regularly take this medicine.
