COMMON USES:
Especially useful in the treatment of infantile spasms (a type of seizure that starts in the first year of life)
Used along with other medicines to control partial seizures

HOW IT'S SUPPLIED:
500-milligram tablet
500-milligram powder packet

HOW IT WORKS:
Indirectly increases the body?s amount of GABA (gamma-aminobutryic acid), a chemical in the brain that blocks nerves from firing.

THINGS TO DISCUSS WITH YOUR DOCTOR
* Can be taken with or without food
* May cause headaches, drowsiness, and weight gain.
* May also cause agitation and/or hyperactivity.
* Can cause vision loss, so children aged 9 years and older should have vision tests before starting this medicine and every 6 months while taking it.
* Should be used with caution in children with kidney disease.
* May lower the level of Phenytoin (Dilantin?) in the blood if both medicines are used at the same time.
* Tablets can be dissolved in liquids.
